Netflix has released the trailer for the upcoming fifth season of The Crown. This is Humayun Saeed’s big-ticket Hollywood debut, and hence expectations are very high. Unfortunately fans will have to wait longer to catch a glimpse of our hero. The trailer doesn’t feature a glimpse of the actor who plays Princess Diana’s love interest Dr Hasnat Khan.
The trailer opens with Queen Elizabeth II looking at a burning building and later inspecting the charred remains of the building (most likely a reference to the King’s Cross fire of 1987 that killed 31 people). A voice over from a news broadcast is heard saying, “The royal family is in genuine crisis,” while another asks, “Have royal scandals damaged the country’s reputation?” We see glimpses of Princess Diana and Prince Charles being scolded by the Queen at the Buckingham Palace. The season looks at the breakdown of Charles and Diana’s marriage and his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.

The trailer gives a peek at Diana’s 1995 interview on the BBC documentary series Panorama, in which she discussed the dissolution of her marriage with then-Prince Charles. In her iconic black blazer and white t-shirt, Diana, played by Elizabeth Debicki, tells journalist Martin Bashir, played by Prasanna Puwanarajah, “I won’t go quietly. I’ll battle ’til the end.”
In September, Humayun Saeed shared the poster on Twitter and confirmed being part of the show. Many celebrities showered a bunch of emojis on his post.
