Pakistani dramas are being liked and watched globally. Apart from the script, directions, and acting, one should never underestimate the presence of a melodious original soundtrack (OST). Many times, a good OST not just acts as a force to attract viewers but pulls out emotions too. Most of the tracks in 2021 that hit a chord with us were high on inspiration and intensity or hooking for the most foot-tapping reasons. Pehli Si Muhabbat
Although, we hardly saw muhabbat in Pehli Si Muhabbat, the highly anticipated drama turned out to be a rota dhota affair. However, Ali Zafar’s powerful vocals kept the sinking ship afloat. The track had the feel of love and agony; the best part is that Zafar nevertheless had some tough notes to deal with but he managed it quite effortlessly. Composed by Gohar Mumtaz and written by Asad Shah the OST won’t stop you from listening to it again and again.
Raqs-e-Bismil
Listeners who seek a soul-stirring number ‘Sanwal’ came across as food for the heart and soul. The composition by Riaz Ali Khan and strong vocals by Vicky Akbar grapples you with fierce intensity and refuse to let go. The catchy lyrics by Farhat Abbas Shah kind of symbolize the inner journey of the lead protagonist. The last episode of Raqs-e-Bismil made it to the top trending list giving the fans hope for a sequel.
Laapata
Farhan Zaheer’s track packed in helluva pluck and passion. This was one of those tracks you may not hook instantly. But the simplicity and softness slowly mesmerized you. Meaningful lyrics by Warda Lodhi, vibrant music, good vibe, and soulful vocals by Kiran Waseem and Tehseen W. Chishty made this a sure-shot winner.
Chupke Chupke
Sometimes the smartest thing a music director can do is not to smother a tune with too many elements. Naveed Nashad successfully demonstrated it in the mild beats and graceful vibe of Paresha Kyun Lagay. In the age of overdone, overenthusiastic, overkill, Ali Zafar’s cute pleasantness was a much-needed breath of fresh air.
Khuda Aur Muhabbat 3
The highly anticipated franchise may not have met the expectations of the viewers but the soulful OST certainly did. Easily one of the best-rated, soundtracks of the year, the captivating composition by Naveed Naushad; lyrics by Qamar Nashad coupled with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s breathtaking touches created something so overwhelmingly impassioned as to ensure it’s a cut above typical romantic ballads. You start to wander in an imaginative world once you hear the song.
Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay
As soon as I got into the car after listening to the OST of Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay, the first thing I did was to look up for it and put it on loop. I didn’t stopped since. The beauty of long drives, clear roads and indefinite destinations come alive in ditties like this. There is so much to choose from, but it’s the unconventional voice of Yashal Shahid and Azaan Sami Khan’s super composition, that I am super addicted to.
Taana Bana
Amanat Ali delivers another winner in the starry-eyed promises and optimism of love in Taana Bana most infectious offering. We loved how the composer Naveed Nashad created bubbles with affection and simplicity as well as the judicious use of contemporary melodies.
Fitoor
Shani Baig’s glorious embrace with Sabir Zafar’s grandiose lyrics and ecstatic declarations alongside Aima Baig’s extravagant vocal was befitting in Faysal Qurehsis’ blockbuster stature. All you need is love. And an on-a-loop button.
Parizaad
One of the strongest compositions of 2021 reiterated that Asrar is the undisputed king of playback singing. Parizaad’s OST is a melodramatic masterpiece. The tune is extremely catchy, and the western beats are not too removed from an accessible sound. Hashim Nadeem lyrics bolster the plight of the protagonist.
