Fahad Hussayn recently broke away from the commercial safety of bridal and lawn collections to unveil “The Conclave of Anti-Fashion.” This experimental showcase at LAAM Fashion Week saw the designer trading retail-driven designs for high-concept, “wild” creativity, emphasizing his maturity through intricate fabric manipulation rather than mere theatrical props.
The Collection: A Tribute to Basant
The lineup was a vibrant nod to Lahore’s Basant festivities, featuring:
- Intricate Patchwork: Silks were pieced together so precisely they mimicked seamless prints.
- Neon & Metallic Palettes: A bold color story punctuated by “stars and kites” motifs.
- Statement Accessories: Funky kite-shaped earrings and hand-stitched bag details stole the spotlight, poised to be immediate retail hits.

The Performance: Style Over Spectacle
In a departure from his signature “gugu ghoras” and rose-petal theatrics, Hussayn opted for a more grounded yet “eye-popping” experience. The show featured live lip-syncing performances by Sheryar Rehman, Natasha Baig, and Nehal Nasim, with actress Amna Ilyas serving as the celebrity showstopper.
While past shows were sometimes criticized for letting theatrics overshadow the garments, this collection allowed the technical craftsmanship—specifically the naqashi and fabric techniques—to speak for itself. It was a clear signal that Hussayn is comfortable evolving from a “showman” into a sophisticated “couturier.”
