Trailer (Review): ‘Barzakh’ Transcends Conventional Boundaries!

Last seen in drama serial ‘Zindagi Gulzar Hai’ (2013), Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed, are set to reunite in Asim Abbasi’s new supernatural romance series ‘Barzakh’ (purgatory). The trailer offers a glimpse into the show’s broader narrative, where both actors play significant roles.

Set in the Hunza Valley, “Barzakh” centers on a 76-year-old man who surprises his estranged children and grandchildren by announcing his engagement to the ghost of his first love. This revelation triggers a series of emotional confrontations as the family gathers, unsure how to respond to the situation. The trailer suggests that “Barzakh” will explore themes of interconnectedness and enduring love, weaving local folklore into its storyline. The series poses the question: “When all has withered, will love endure?”

Directed by Asim Abbasi, known for “Churails” and “Cake,” the eagerly awaited series is produced by Shailja Kejriwal and Waqas Hassan. Titled “Barzakh,” which means ‘obstacle’ or ‘purgatory,’ the series is set against the scenic backdrop of Pakistan’s Hunza Valley. The six-episode show delves into themes such as mental health, postpartum depression, generational trauma, and gender inclusivity.

In addition to Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed, the cast includes Salman Shahid, M Fawad Khan, Eman Suleman, Khushhal Khan, Faiza Gillani, Anika Zulfikar, and Franco Giusti, among others. “Barzakh” will be available every Monday and Friday at 8 pm on Zindagi’s official YouTube channel and ZEE5.
