By and large, what kind of anticipation does one have from the new installment of a successful franchise? Also, the query that crosses one’s mind is, will the new installment offer better-quality entertainment, will it promising content and in turn, be able to fetch TRPs and viewership?
‘Baby Baji Ki Bahuwain’ has an ensemble cast that retains all the members from the first part, but has several new entrants as well [Asma Abbas, Madiha Iftikhar, Afzal Khan (Rambo) and Rimha Ahmed]. The only aspect that doesn’t change is director Tehseen Khan and writer Mansoor Ahmed Khan’s objective of providing entertainment.
‘Baby Baji Ki Bahuwain’ kick starts from where season 1 ended. Azra realizes her mistakes and comes back to Jamal’s life. She now replaces ‘Baby Baji’ (Samina Ahmed) and takes control of the house. They all lead happy lives until Rizwana Phuppo (Asma Abbas) and her daughter Sara (Madiha Iftikhar).
Tehseen Khan’s ‘Baby Baji Ki Bahuwain’ re-introduces us to the traditional side of a desi household without getting orthodox. It is very Pakistani at heart, seeped in human emotions. It talks of familial bonding. It packs in loads of sentiments in a daily dose of 50 minutes.
The initial episodes start well and focus on light moments. But the enterprise changes gears as soon as Azra locks horns with Phuppo. Deep inside, you know that a storm is brewing and it explodes later. You have a nagging feeling that one of the characters might create problems. But the twist in the tale is completely unexpected. It’s unconventional, yes, and therein lies its strength.
In terms of scripting, ‘Baby Baji Ki Bahuwain’ is structured on the lines of Baby Baji. ‘Baby Baji Ki Bahuwain’ has a host of characters but the ones that shine are Javeria Saud who leads the proceedings and undoubtedly is the soul of the enterprise. She is simply exceptional. Saud is good. Sunita Marshall is splendid all through. Asma Abbas is a great addition to the franchise. Madiha Iftikhar is adequate. Tuba Anwar and Junaid Jamshed Niazi do well.
On the whole, ‘Baby Baji Ki Bahuwain’ marks the birth of a successful soap opera franchise and is laced with humor and drama in ample doses. Strongly Recommended!
