In the realm of Pakistani cinema, few names evoke as much admiration and reverence as the legendary Resham. After a hiatus that spanned several years, she is all set to grace the silver screen with ‘Gunjal’. Directed by Shoaib Sultan, the film is inspired by actual events in the life of child labor activist Iqbal Masih. We at Fashion Times Magazine caught up with the actor for a quick chat.

Resham was offered a lot of characters in the last few years, but nothing impressed her. “Gunjal is different from my previous films, as it has a bigger purpose than just glamour. The film is thrilling yet entertaining. It is important to produce such films that have a message along with entertainment.”

It was an instant yes for the Lollywood diva the moment she learned Ahmed Ali Akbar would be his co-star. “I loved Ahmed’s work in Parizaad. I was super excited to work with him. I enjoyed his company, he’s a much-grounded person. My scenes are majorly with him as his character works under my supervision.”

Speaking about her character, she said, “I play Sarwat, she’s the editor of a news publication. She’s a strong woman with an authoritative nature. I am doing a film after 15 years, so there must be something special about it that made me yes to it. The main purpose was to give the message Haq Aur Sach (right and truth). It’s a powerful character, people will see me in a different avatar and I hope people will like it.”

Resham feels lucky to be working with the new-age cinema. “When you work with new people, there’s a new energy, there’s a fresh vibe. It was great working with Amna Ilyas and Ahmed, I feel seniority isn’t gaged by age, it is important how much time one has spent in the industry.”

It became challenging for Resham to complete the last day of soot as she was diagnosed with COVID-19 for the second time. “It was my last day on set. I was having fever spikes and body aches. I made sure to complete the shoot as I strongly believe that the feedback and love of my audience is my real reward.” She concluded.

‘Gunjal’ releases in cinemas on December 15.
