Music icon Faisal Kapadia opens up about his latest venture lending his powerful voice to the title OST of the highly anticipated drama serial Sher. Starring Danish Taimoor and Sarah Khan, and directed by the acclaimed Aehsun Talish, Sher promises to be a gripping tale set to premiere soon on ARY Digital.
Known for his unforgettable legacy with Strings and iconic songs that have defined generations, Faisal steps into a new creative space with this emotionally charged and energy-driven track. In an exclusive conversation with Fashion Times Magazine, he talks about the power of music in storytelling, his collaboration with Arif Lohar, and what makes this project truly special. Read on…
Q) What drew you to sing the title track of Sher?
A) When this project came my way, it instantly felt right. With Shuja Haider as the music composer and producer, I was naturally drawn to it. I’m at a stage in my career where I’m focused on doing meaningful, quality work and the music and production design of Sher were truly impressive. It was an easy yes for me.
Q) What was your collaboration like with the music and production team of Sher?
A) I was given a clear brief and followed it, with the direction on how the song should be delivered coming from the music producer. What made this project especially interesting was the collaboration with Arif Lohar. When you’re singing solo, you have the freedom to choose your own tone. But in a collaboration, it’s crucial to ensure both voices complement each other and align at the right frequency. Arif and I have very distinct styles, so finding that balance was key and I believe we achieved it beautifully.
Q) How do you feel music enhances the storytelling in dramas like Sher?
A) Music is an essential part of any visual art. If you take it away from an intense scene, half the emotional impact is lost. It plays a powerful role in elevating dialogues and bringing scenes to life adding excitement, depth, and emotion. Music sets the tone, and the OST of Sher truly captures and enhances the intensity of its story.
Q) What feelings do you hope listeners take away from this OST?
A) I just want listeners to enjoy it enough to play it on repeat, the way I have been. Even though it’s my own song, I genuinely enjoy listening to it. Hearing Arif bhai’s voice adds another layer his singing brings a unique flavor to the track. It’s an interesting combination: fun yet dark, intense yet energetic. It carries both moods, and I think that contrast will resonate with people. Hopefully, it finds a lasting place on their playlists.
Q) You’ve been part of many iconic songs. How is this OST different from your previous work?
A) You move forward. With Strings, we created some incredible music Zinda, Yeh Hai Meri Kahani, Aakhri Alvida, Phir Milenge from Coke Studio, and so many memorable tracks from our albums. But I don’t dwell on the past; I focus on what’s ahead. Collaborating with the Sher team was exciting, and when I heard the final mix, I genuinely felt a surge of excitement. It reminded me why I love doing this.
Q) Any message to your fans?
A) Right now, I’m simply enjoying the phase of life I’m in. I’m focused on creating new music and exploring fresh ideas through experimentation. If there’s one mantra I live by, it’s to follow your dreams just like the message in my latest album, Zindagi Jahan Le Jaye, Bas Aap Ussi Raste Pe Chal Karain.
