Fashion Times (Review): ‘Daghabaaz Dil’ Is A Treat for Masala Movie Enthusiasts!

Eid remains a highly coveted period for filmmakers and producers to release their films, aiming to capitalize on the festive fervor and maximize box office returns. Filmmaker Wajahat Rauf takes up the challenge of giving the audience a combo of laughs, and romance with a dash of horror. So does Daghabaaz Dil give the audience a great time? Let’s analyze.

The premise introduces us to Saleem and Kareem essayed by (Babar Ali and Saleem Sheikh). The brother duo are not on good terms over the settlement of a family property. Their mother played by (Beo Rana Zafar) sets a plan to make the family united. She fixes the wedding of their children Zoya and Faris (Mehwish Hayat) and (Ali Rehman Khan). As the narrative progresses, Zoya falls for Faris, but Moon (Momin Saqib) the latter cousin also develops feelings for Zoya. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Daghabaaz Dil is drastically different from Wajahat’s previous films, not just because of the big horror twist. There is a lot more drama and emotional moments than one would expect. The first half neatly incorporates comedy and madness. But the best is reserved for the intermission point – the film reaches a high in this sequence! The climax is well-helmed and keeps you glued to the proceedings.

The story is interesting and a bit complicated. But it’s put together well. The horror is such that it won’t scare the hell out of viewers. At the same time, it’s not even amateur. A nice balance is maintained and that’s praiseworthy. There’s no denying that the motive is to make you entertain and it makes you break into guffaws on several occasions. Also special mention for the dialogues, which are witty, funny, and amusing. The music [Aashir Wajahat] has been created keeping in mind the theme of the movie. ‘Gori Tera Jhumka’ is already popular and so are ‘Aaja Chal’ and ‘Haariyan’. The cinematography is conventionally appealing.

Ali Rehman delivers a fine performance and it works, although it’s not something that he has not done before. He’s quite good in the dramatic portions in the second half. Mehwish Hayat has a crucial character and from the first sequence itself, there’s an element of mystery surrounding her character that adds to the fun. She looks beautiful and does a great job. Momin Saquib impresses a lot with his unique act. Tazeen Hussain is good. Saleem Sheikh and Babar Ali deliver a performance that provides entertainment.

Wajahat’s intention is clear i.e. to make a movie that appeals to the masses, the aam aadmi who relishes hardcore masala movies. Moreover, with songs, dances, and feel-good moments, ‘Daghabaaz Dil’ delivers what it promises. If you are one of those who care less about rationale but look at movies that not only entertain but also act as stress busters, ‘Daghabaaz Dil’ will slake your cinematic cravings.
