Renowned fashion designer Faiza Saqlain has called out actor Maya Ali’s fashion label, MAYA Prêt-À-Porter, for allegedly imitating her previous designs. Taking to social media, Saqlain shared side-by-side comparisons of her older creations with the brand’s recent releases, claiming that the similarities were far too close to ignore.
“Should I be flattered?” she asked sarcastically, accusing Ali’s brand of being “inspired” by her work “in all respects.” Saqlain urged the label to “create something of [their] own” instead of reproducing her designs.
The designer posted three examples to support her claims. Among them was a bridal outfit from Ali’s Bus Tum collection, which bore a resemblance to one of Saqlain’s 2021 bridal pieces, particularly in its embellishments and detailing. Another example included a velvet ombre sari from MAYA’s Viola Luxe line, similar to Saqlain’s earlier creation — differing mainly in color, with Ali’s being purple instead of teal, yet both featuring a fine silver border.

The third look was a black peshwas from the same Viola Luxe collection, which Saqlain noted was even modeled and photographed in a setup strikingly similar to her own 2023 campaign.

In addition to her own posts, Saqlain reshared several stories from fans and fellow designers who supported her claim. One follower lamented that a bridal outfit Saqlain had designed as a tribute to her mother was being copied, while another praised her for her “pure hard work” and expressed disappointment at seeing her work replicated by another brand.
As of now, Maya Ali has not issued any public response — neither on her personal social media nor on MAYA Prêt-À-Porter’s official page — regarding the plagiarism allegations.
