Singer Schumaila Rehmat Hussain is known for her international collaborations and tours. She has crooned songs for Sarmad Khoosat’s‘ Manto’, Bollywood’s ‘Julie 2’, and ‘Theriye Huzoor’ from the film Azad. The singer recently launched her latest album titled ‘Gul Mohar Se’ on July 7. Popular celebrities like Sarmad Sultan Khoosat and members of the music fraternity were present at the launch to support the musician. The event took place at Olomopolo arts and media organizations.

What’s ‘Gul Mohar Se’ All About?
The title is inspired by the flower Gul Mohar, as it’s the only flower that blooms with the intensity of sunlight. The songs have been penned by Ali Abbas Zaidi and the music is by Faraz Rizvi. According to Hussain, “It took me one and half years to make this album.” The album comprises of eight songs and is available on Spotify, Gaana, Amazon, iTunes, YouTube, Facebook, Instareels, Patari, and Deezer.
The Big Reveal
During the album launch, Schumaila revealed that Indian writer and storyteller Jai Singh has collaborated on one of the songs ‘Rafiqo’ that narrates the story of Udham Singh (an Indian revolutionary). Jai Singh joined the event virtually and spoke about the making of the song ‘Rafiqo’. “When I first heard the song, Udham Singh’s story was the first thing that came to my mind. I discussed it further with Schumaila and we mutually agreed to incorporate the story in the form of narration.” He further said, “Rules and borders can stop him from coming to a country but no one can stop his voice to reach there. He wishes to visit Pakistan one day and to meet the artists here.”

Schumaila has studied international music and conducted various workshops in US. She was influenced by music during her college days. Once, one of her musical workshops was handpicked by Mary Wilson, the band member of Diana Ross & The Supremes to perform across different states of America. For the unversed, she is sister to actor and director Yasir Hussain.
