Zahir Jaffer, the prime accused in the Noor Mukadam murder case, has been given a death sentence by the Islamabad court. In its verdict issued today (Thursday), the court convicted Jaffer of killing Noor Mukadam and sentenced him to death. However, the convict’s parents, Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Adamjee, who was accused of abetting the crime, were acquitted in the case. Two house staff were sentenced to 10 years in prison.

“I am happy that justice has been served,” said Shaukat Mukadam, Noor’s father, while pledging to challenge the acquittal of Jaffer’s parents.
Case background
On July 20, 2021, Noor Mukadam was brutally beheaded and murdered in Islamabad by Zahir Jaffer, sparking outrage across the country. Days later #JusticeForNoor trended on social media with Prime Minister Imran Khan, Foreign Minister Qureshi, and others condemning the incident. According to reports, the DNA test also showed the victim was raped before being killed.
