Ayesha Chundrigar and Ayesha Chundrigar Foundation (ACF) have officially renewed their certification with the Pakistan Centre of Philanthropy (PCP). PCP approved certification for 19 nonprofit organizations including ACF, which means the organizations selected have become eligible for securing international grants and funds for relief efforts and human development in the country. For the unversed, PCP is a governing body for nonprofits that only gives accreditation to those nonprofits that have excellent, transparent governance on all fronts from legal to financials to operations to policies.
Ayesha Chundrigar, founder and CEO of ACF spoke about all the efforts the foundation has made over the years. “Not many are aware of the fact that ACF is one of the few non-profits certified with the Pakistan Centre of Philanthropy. That’s the thing about what we do. Not only we are the only hospital/sanctuary for street animals in a big city like Karachi, but we also maintain operations on daily basis, fundraise and deal with hundreds of obstacles to change the age-old regimented mindset.”
She further added: “We are busy with paperwork and procedures to ensure that we create a sustainable model that will outlive us. The masses usually assume that it is an easy task to run an animal rescue and all it takes to be an animal lover. On the contrary, it has nothing to do with being an animal lover. It all depends on your passion merged with practicality. It’s not just one shelter we are running. We are creating a movement and making guidelines as to how animal welfare would work in society in the long haul. It’s a task we don’t take lightly.”
Ayesha Chundrigar Foundation is the first and largest animal rescue organization in Pakistan. It rescues and rehabilitates injured and abused animals and shows empathy with all living beings. The foundation has rescue services on a daily basis. It has set up a sanctuary and several donkey medical camps where absurd donkeys are provided with free medical treatment, rehabilitation, and food. Not just that, the ACF provides a daily ambulance service that rescues injured, neglected, and abused cats, dogs, and donkeys. One of their most recent initiatives includes a clinic on wheels, formally called the ‘ACF Mobile Clinic’, that works on the streets to help pets with minor injuries.
